Chennai : Tamil teen crime-thriller 'Vazhakku Enn 18/9' won the best film award at the first South Asian Film Festival (SAFF) held in Paris recently.
The critically acclaimed film opened to a packed house at the event, held between Jan 16-20, and left the international audience spellbound. At the closing ceremony of the festival, it was officially awarded the best film award.

The film, directed by Balaji Sakthivel, is the story of modern day youth, whose lives are shackled by sex, lies and crime. Made on a shoe-string budget, the film starred newcomers such as Mithun Murali, Sri Urmila Mahanta and Manisha Yadav.
It was also one of the Tamil films in the run for India's Oscar entry, for best foreign language film category.
The other Tamil film also screened at the SAFF was Karthik Subbaraj's horror-thriller 'Pizza'.
Other contenders in the best film category were Ajay Bahl's 'BA Pass', Amit Ashraf's Bangladeshi film 'Udhao', Gurvinder Singh's 'Anhey Ghore Da Daan' and Nepali film 'Loot' by Nischal Basnet .
Some other Indian films were screened under a special category, which included films such as Onir's 'My Brother Nikhil', A.R Murugadoss '7 am Arivu' and Abhinay Deo's 'Delhi Belly'.
Aimed at proving that South Asian cinema is not only about Bollywood, the SAFF screened movies from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal.

Director Balaji Sakthivel's critically acclaimed movie 'Vazhakku Enn 18/9' has won the 'Best Film' award at the South Asian Film festival (Festival du film d'Asie du Sud Transgressif) held at Paris-France. 

The film was well received by the Tamill audience and movie buffs all over the globe. The announcement of award for the film was made during the closing ceremony of the film festival.

Moreover, the film has been nominated under different categories in various other film festivals and so this is just the beginning of an international level appreciation.

Prouced by Lingusamy under Thirupathi Brothers banner, the film had new faces Sri, Mithun Murali, Dinesh, Urmila Mahanta and Manisha Yadav in the lead roles. The film's technical team had S.D. Vijay Milton for cinematography, Gopi Krishna for editing and R. Prasanna for music.

Vazhakku enn 18/9 wins another Award


One of the most critically acclaimed film of 2012- Vazhakku enn 18/9 has won the award for the best film at the South Asian Film festival- Paris(Festival du film d’Asie du Sud Transgressif) held at Paris – France.
vazhakku enn 18/9 directed by Balaji Sakthivel and produced by Thirupathi brothers, opened to a packed house and left the international audience spellbound. At the closing ceremony today, it was formally announced that the film at bagged the prestigious award as  the BEST FILM. It is yet another feather on its cap for Thirupathi
